KINGSTON – The Amtrak train station at Rhinecliff has been in need of major upgrades for years and with projects set to be undertaken, State Assemblywoman Sarahana Shrestha (D, Esopus) received word that the federal government has been them on pause.

She said at a time when Washington has brought the nation and world to the brink of an energy crisis and global destabilization, it continues to spend billions of taxpayer dollars on wasteful projects.

“There are several problems with not being able to park easily because Rhinecliff is not an area where you can have much street parking and the waiting room that is being used right now is very, very small and it is not ADA compliant, but it is very popularly used station, and we have been waiting for a long to for it to become much more easily usage. And its sounds like there has been a curve ball thrown to this project.”

Shrestha said the United States has the highest GDP in the world, yet it can’t get the basis infrastructure need taken care of.
