A 32-year-old Schenectady man was arrested after allegedly possessing a kilogram of cocaine following a pursuit Wednesday on the State Thruway in Ulster County.
According to State Police, troopers attempted to stop Shariff A. Frasier’s 2026 Nissan Altima at about 6:50 p.m. in the Town of Plattekill for multiple traffic violations. Investigators said Frasier failed to comply, leading to a pursuit that lasted approximately 22 miles and reached speeds of up to 115 mph. The pursuit ended when a tire deflation device successfully disabled the vehicle.
Frasier then fled on foot but was apprehended shortly afterward on Sawkill Road in the Town of Ulster. A 29-year-old female passenger was detained at the scene and later released.
During the investigation, K9 Kell located a backpack belonging to Frasier in a wooded area near Sawkill Road. The backpack was found to contain approximately one kilogram of cocaine. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered about $3,000 in U.S. currency.
Frasier was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, as well as reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and obstructing governmental administration.
He was arraigned in Ulster County Central Arraignment Part and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail. He is awaiting a future court date.
