NEW CITY – Clarkstown Police Capt. James Fay, Jr. has been named the new police chief in the town. The town board approved the appointment at its Tuesday night meeting. He starts his new role on April 24.
Current Chief Jeffrey Wanamaker, who served as chief since 2021 and worked in the department for 39 years, announced his resignation.
Town Supervisor George Hoehmann called Fay “a true public servant with a deep commitment to the police department and the town.”
Fay has served in the Clarkstown Police Department for 32 years, serving in every major operational and administrative facet of the agency.
During his tenure, Fay worked in narcotics and organized crime, where he served as an investigator with the Rockland County Narcotics Task Force and the Anti-Crime Unit before working to establish and command the department’s Street Crime Unit.
