CHESTER – A Republican candidate for the Chester Town Board has been arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), just three months after being busted on a felony gun charge.
According to court records, Brian Youmans, 33, vice chairman of the Orange County Young Republicans, was arrested for DWI on Friday in Chester. This comes after his arrest in January on attempted criminal possession of a weapon and falsifying business records in the Town of Wallkill.
Youmans is running a Republican primary against Bob Courtenay, who has been cross endorsed by the Democrats. Sources have confirmed that Orange County Democrats will demand as early as Wednesday that Youmans drops out of the race.
Youman’s attorney, Paul Brite, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment for this story. The suspect is set to appear before Town of Wallkill Justice Peter Green’s court next week on the gun and falsifying records charges. Sources said that Youmans was arrested this January after he allegedly lied on an application to obtain a rifle last November.
Courtney Canfield Greene, chairwoman of the Orange County Republican Committee, did not return a message seeking comment for this story. After Youmans was nominated as vice-chairman of the Orange County Young Republicans in March, the organization wrote on its Facebook page:
“In our eyes Brian is a true team player who cares about his community and conservative values. He has worked hard to ensure Republicans across the county have the turnout they need to win their elections, as well as traveling to represent us at many events. We are proud to call Brian Youmans our Vice-Chairman.”
