MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown Common Council was all set to approve a contract with J.C. Ehrlich company for pest control services at the new city courthouse, until Council President Miguel Rodrigues learned the company is owned by a British conglomerate.

He was concerned because a local company should have been given top consideration.

“We have a pest control company in our city and that owner also lives in our city,” he said. “A big component when we ran was to support local businesses and I pushed to support local businesses and we voted the resolution down tonight.”

Rodrigues said he wants local companies contacted and offered to bid on the service for the courthouse.
