POUGHKEEPSIE – . The brother of Poughkeepsie Mayor Yvonne Flowers has been battling domestic violence charges in Dutchess County and Connecticut in recent months, and was arrested on criminal mischief charges Thursday after allegedly going on a rampage at a tenant’s residence recently.
Sources have told that Flowers has been acting as the rental agent for various property owners in and around the City of Poughkeepsie. For the past several years, Flowers has been acting as an agent for property owners and renting out their apartments, fully furnished, in a style similar to Airbnb. One of the apartments is the result of Flowers’ most recent arrest.
Following a dispute at the apartment he rented to a tenant on Delano Street, Flowers agreed to meet the tenant for a property exchange at the residence, under the supervision of the City of Poughkeepsie police.
During the exchange, Flowers allegedly threw a TV over the stair banister, breaking it beyond repair. This was while members of the tenant’s family and her young children were inside the home. After his display of masculinity, Flowers left the apartment without taking any of the property he claimed belonged to him.
A party familiar with the incident told Mid-Hudson News that the tenant went to the City of Poughkeepsie police station and filed a criminal complaint against Flowers, leading to his arrest this week. Restraining orders were issued against Flowers, prohibiting him from contacting the most recent victims.
Mid-Hudson News was unable to obtain additional information from authorities on Friday night.
Flowers currently has the following criminal cases pending:
- Coercion in the Town of Poughkeepsie
- Criminal Mischief in the City of Poughkeepsie
- Strangulation, assault, and endangering the welfare of a minor in Dutchess County Court
- Felony criminal violation of a restraining order in Connecticut
- Violation of probation in Connecticut.
There are four different victims in the criminal cases against Flowers.
