PUTNAM COUNTY- Good Friday was observed at churches throughout Putnam County – the day that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Catholics conducted an afternoon service off Route 6 in Mahopac, under the supervision of Father Szymon Kurpios of St. John’s Church in Mahopac, before proceeding in a Stations of the Cross ritual to the church on East Lake Blvd.
In Brewster, hundreds of Putnam’s residents originally from Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico and Puerto Rico joined others who converged along the village’s Main Street at sundown and participated in the tradition that dates to the 1600s – the Stations of the Cross.
Some 350 men, women and children walked along Brewster’s main thoroughfare stopping at 14 images arranged in numbered order where worshippers at each station stopped to pray.
