POUGHKEEPSIE — Shawn Grey, 50, of Pleasant Valley, once among New York’s most wanted fugitives, was convicted Wednesday of burglary and criminal possession of stolen property in Dutchess County Court. Grey faces 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced in June.
A jury found Grey guilty after a three-day trial and two days of deliberations before Judge Karen Edelman-Reyes.
Prosecutors said Grey broke into Orchard Lane Apartments at 51 Watson Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie on Sept. 20, 2024, damaged a storage unit, and stole property. The building serves as faculty and employee housing for Vassar College, and authorities said Grey had no permission to be on the premises.
“This conviction reflects the strength of the evidence and the careful attention of the jury,” District Attorney Anthony Parisi said in a statement. “Thanks to the swift actions of vigilant citizens, the thorough investigation by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, and the forensic evidence presented at trial, justice has been served.”
Grey, who has multiple prior convictions, was considered one of the state’s most-wanted fugitives in 2024. . Charges in that case remain pending.
Judge Edelman-Reyes scheduled sentencing for June 23.
