LIBERTY – The Sullivan County Quick Response team in partnership with Hope Not Handcuffs, has been operating countywide since last fall and Liberty Village Police Chief Steven D’Agata, who chairs the county Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative says it is highly successful.
He said it is working in pairing people with addiction issues with recovery services.
“We have been able to connect a number of individuals that have suffered a non-fatal overdose with follow up from our team; we have been able to connect them with inpatient treatment, as well as we also go into the Sullivan County Jail and meet with individuals prior to their release. And we have connected a number of those individuals with door-to-door treatment from their release from the Sullivan County Jail to inpatient facilities,” he said.
Hope Not Handcuffs has been in use since 2021 with the Quick Response Team initially operating in Liberty and Fallsburg in 2023 and now is working countywide with the district attorney’s office.
