CARMEL – Putnam’s Pinwheel Garden will be “planted” today with hundreds of blue and white pinwheels when the county kicks off Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Putnam Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is working in conjunction with county government by spearheading the initiative.

CAC Program Coordinator Marla Behler explained “pinwheels are meant to convey that every child deserves the chance to be raised in a healthy, safe and nurturing environment. Pinwheels are a happy and uplifting token of childhood.”

Volunteers are being sought to help plant the garden that will be located in front of the statue of Sybil Ludington along the Gleneida lakeshore. The planting begins at 12 noon.

Behler also noted this year Putnam’s schools have joined the pinwheel campaign as well with children planting pinwheel gardens on individual school campuses.
