NEW CITY – A house fire Sunday morning at 71 Carolina Drive in New City claimed one life.

The blaze broke out at about 9:05 a.m. with firefighters finding the two-story home engulfed in flames.

Crews were met with heavy fire conditions with a rear portion of the building collapsing.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters discover the body of a resident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Several area fire departments and the Rockland County Tech Rescue Team assisted New City extinguish the blaze.
