NEWBURGH – The large parking lot on the Newburgh waterfront that once served the now-defunct Newburgh-Beacon Ferry will be coming back to life.
Two local developers – The Kaplan Family and the Bonura Group, owners of the land, are planning to develop a large apartment-mixed use project, Mayor Torrance Harvey said.
“About 172 apartments, market rate, right on the waterfront with a major, major business that is also going to be on that site with sufficient parking, rooftop gardens, green spaces, swimming pools, maybe a fitness center,” he said.
The mayor said the anticipated tenant for the office building will be an unnamed accounting firm.
Metro-North Railroad shut down the ferry service last year citing low ridership and alternative Hudson River crossing via the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and bus service.
