KINGSTON- After months of anticipation, newly renovated tennis and pickleball courts at Loughran Park are now open to the public, city officials announced this week.

Mayor Steven Noble said the upgrades respond directly to growing demand, especially for pickleball, one of the fastest-growing recreational sports in the region.

“The public has been clamoring for more pickleball courts, and we are thrilled to officially open the newly renovated court complex in Loughran Park,” Noble said.

The project, completed in November 2025, included demolition of the old courts and installation of a redesigned complex featuring two tennis courts and eight pickleball courts.  While construction wrapped up just as the season’s first snowfall arrived, the city held off on opening until warmer weather made the courts usable.

In addition to expanding capacity, the project focused on improving long-term conditions and minimizing neighborhood impacts.  Upgrades included enhanced subgrade stability, green infrastructure to improve drainage, and landscaping with a bioretention swale.  Sound mitigation measures were also built into the design, including sound barriers and separating pickleball play from tennis courts.

City Parks and Recreation Director Lynsey Timbrouck said the reopening marks an important moment for local recreation.

“There has been much anticipation for these improvements, and we’re so happy that we can finally share the wonderful amenities with the community,” Timbrouck said.
