MONTICELLO – Winter met a splashy end at Holiday Mountain in Monticello on Sunday, as the third annual Beach Bash and Pond Skim officially signaled the transition to spring. A crowd of hundreds gathered on the mountain to witness the season’s most anticipated and frosty spectacle. Owner Mike Taylor said this event is about serving the community.

“Kind of our end-of-winter party to get everybody out. We have over 90 participants registered, and it’s just a really great fun day. We have live music and food, and obviously pond skimming, which everybody loves.”

While a handful of entrants managed to hydroplane gracefully to the other side of the pond, the majority of the field provided the crowd with what they came for: spectacular high-speed wipeouts and chilly plunges into the mountain-fed water.

And for Taylor, “I love it. I just love skiing. I ski every weekend, and it’s just great to be able to share this with future generations.”
