ALBANY – State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) has included $1.3 million in the State Senate’s 2026-27 budget for the purchase of the former education center and gymnasium at St. Patrick’s Church to convert it into a new Woodbury municipal and community building.

The Catholic Archdiocese of New York closed it in 2023 during the merger with Sacred Heart Church in Monroe.

The Woodbury church remains active.

The senator said centralizing town offices would save taxpayers money and preserve a key community property from development.

“I know the importance of St. Patrick’s to Woodbury, and I would be thrilled to see this building remain a centerpiece to the community,” Skoufis said.

Town Supervisor Jacqueline Hernandez said the proposed funding “is a meaningful step toward transforming the former Saint Patrick’s Church education center and gymnasium into a vibrant municipal space will host events and activities for residents of all ages.”

The funding must also be included in the Assembly’s budget and merged into the final state budget that will be voted upon and signed by the governor.
