MAHOPAC – Putnam County’s role in the Revolutionary War is preparing the Hudson Valley for the 250th anniversary of American independence while highlighting the county’s unique role in the nation’s founding.

On Sunday in recognition of Women’s History Month, the Putnam Historian’s Office in conjunction with the Mahopac Public Library hosted a program highlighting the voices, music, and experiences of women during the American Revolutionary era when the Ministers of Apollo Chamber Ensemble presented a chamber music concert featuring works inspired by the period and performed by an ensemble of talented musicians.

Next Saturday the library will host “Remember the Ladies: 18th-Century Women in Song,” a performance that brings to life the stories, music, and perspectives of women during the Revolutionary period. The program highlights the cultural contributions of women whose voices helped shape the spirit of the era.

County Executive Kevin Byrne called the performances a “wonderful way to celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring the voices and contributions of women during the founding of our nation,” while Putnam Historian Jennifer Cassidy added: “Women’s voices were essential to the Revolutionary era, yet their stories are often underrepresented in traditional history. Programs like these allow us to explore those perspectives through music and performance, offering audiences a deeper understanding of life during the 18th century and the many ways women contributed to the American story.”
