MONSEY – A postal worker in the Rockland County community of Monsey has been captured on closed circuit TV assaulting a four-year-old child on Thursday evening.
At about 6:30 p.m. on Garden Terrace, the young Jewish boy was standing nearby, watching as the letter carrier was placing mail into a mailbox.
Without warning, the mailman began screaming at kids in the area and then punched the youngster and threw him to the ground.
Ramapo Police were notified on Friday morning and they determined that a 39-year-old Stony Point man, who works for the postal service, intentionally shoved the child to the ground while performing his duties.
The man, who police did not publicly identify, was charged with misdemeanors of endangering the welfare of a child and attempted assault.
He was released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
Meanwhile, Rockland County Legislators Itamar Yeger and Joel Friedman responded to the incident. “No matter the circumstances, violence against children is never acceptable. We condemn all harm to children in the strongest terms,” the men said in a joint statement.
