WESTCHESTER — Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced that her office’s Safer Highways (D.A.S.H.) plan has been a success in curbing unsafe driving across the region. The initiative, which places a greater police presence on local roads and increases traffic enforcement, began earlier this year at the Sprain Brook Parkway and Interstate 684, both considered high-traffic areas.
The program, launched in February in partnership with New York State Police Troop K, resulted in a 92 percent increase in traffic citations and a 280 percent boost in police patrols, Cacace said.
Additionally, misdemeanor arrests rose six-fold compared to the previous month, and 12 felony arrests were made during the program’s first month.
