ALBANY – Two young men from Brewster are part of the 216th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy increasing the State Police ranks to 5,034 sworn members.
Shane and Scott Dalrymple were joined by Evelin Ramirez of Carmel along with 173 others from across the state.
Ramirez has been assigned to Troop C in upstate Norwich while the brothers are serving close to home with Scott at Troop K headquarters in Millbrook handling communications and Shane at the State Police barracks off Route 22 in Southeast.
Shane Dalrymple described patrolling in the area where he grew up in as “fantastic. It’s great knowing the people; the roads; the community. I belong here as I am serving a greater purpose when assisting my own community. This is where I want to be as I am doing what I love. One can’t really ask for more.”
Dalrymple, 26, and his 23-year-old brother, graduates of John F. Kennedy High School, still reside in Brewster.
During their graduation ceremony, Gov. Kathy Hochul commended the new troopers for “dedicating themselves to public service, and their commitment to protecting the people of New York State.”
Hochul said: “Members of the New York State Police put their lives on the line each day to keep the rest of us safe – in a world where their mission has grown more challenging and complex.”
