RED HOOK — A Red Hook man was arrested on felony drug charges following an investigation into narcotics sales in the village by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force (DCDTF) on Tuesday.

Robert Caroccio, 43, was taken into custody on St. Patrick’s Day after undercover DCDTF agents observed and purchased narcotics from him on multiple occasions, authorities said. The alleged transactions occurred outside several restaurants and bars in Red Hook, following complaints and intelligence from residents, business owners, and local law enforcement.

Agents identified Caroccio as a suspect and, with assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Red Hook Police Department, arrested him in a bar parking lot around 2:15 p.m. Officers found multiple bags of cocaine packaged for sale on Caroccio when he was taken into custody, officials said.

A subsequent search of Caroccio’s residence in the Town of Milan, conducted with assistance from the sheriff’s Emergency Services Unit and K-9 Unit, as well as Red Hook Police, turned up evidence related to cocaine distribution, along with .40-caliber Glock magazines and ammunition, according to the DCDTF.

Caroccio was charged with two counts of felony criminal possession of a controlled substance, arraigned in Red Hook Village Court, and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.  Additional charges are pending, according to DCDTF Detective Sergeant Adam Harris.
“This enforcement action by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force underscores a critical reality: no community in Dutchess County is immune from the reach of dangerous narcotics,” District Attorney Anthony Parisi said in a statement. “Let this serve as a clear message to those who choose to traffic drugs in our communities, whether on a holiday or any other day, you will be identified, investigated, and held accountable.”
The investigation was a joint effort among the Drug Task Force, Red Hook Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.
