GOSHEN – Laurie Tautel, chairwoman of the Orange County Legislature, has been accused of shoving a co-worker during a dispute, several sources confirmed to Mid-Hudson News.
The county’s Human Resources office has launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred late last month after a legislative meeting. Sources said Tautel allegedly pushed legislative attorney Betsy Abraham in front of office staffers because she was “pestering” her about a legislative matter. Abraham subsequently filed a complaint with Human Resources.
Tautel declined comment Tuesday night. Orange County Human Resources Commissioner Langdon Chapman did not immediately return a message seeking comment for this story. The county typically does not comment on personnel matters.
Regardless of the probe, Tautel is expected to remain chairwoman of the legislature after being appointed in January. She will likely be assigned some form of sensitivity training. Tautel is the first Democrat to hold the chairwoman position since the late Roxanne Donnery, of Highland Falls, who was elected to the post in 2009. Tautel also represents Highland Falls.
