MONTICELLO- The chief administrative judge of New York’s court system has appointed a Sullivan County jurist to oversee trial court operations across the Capital Region.

Joseph A. Zayas, the state’s chief administrative judge, announced that E. Danielle Jose-Decker will serve as Administrative Judge for the Third Judicial District.  The appointment was made in consultation with Rowan D. Wilson, New York’s chief judge, and Elizabeth A. Garry, presiding justice of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Department.

In her new role, Jose-Decker will oversee trial court operations across the Third Judicial District, which includes Albany County, Columbia County, Greene County, Rensselaer County, Schoharie County, Sullivan County, and Ulster County.

She succeeds Christina L. Ryba, who was recently elevated to the Appellate Division’s Third Department.

“Judge Jose-Decker’s diverse judicial experience, intimate knowledge of court operations, and deep understanding of the legal needs of the urban, suburban and rural communities served by the district make her an ideal fit for this crucial administrative post,” Zayas said in a statement.

Jose-Decker was elected in 2020 as the first woman to serve as county court judge in Sullivan County.  In addition to presiding over criminal cases, she also serves as surrogate and acting family court judge and as an acting justice of the New York Supreme Court.

Since October 2024, she has also served as supervising judge for the district’s 118 town and village courts, helping lead the development of centralized arraignment parts in Albany and Sullivan counties.

Court officials said her experience working with both urban and rural courts across the region will help guide administration of the district’s trial courts moving forward.
