KINGSTON – A naturalization ceremony was conducted for the first time in six months in Kingston on Friday, and 37 individuals took the oath to become citizens of the United States.
“I think it went well,” said Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck, who presided over the naturalization ceremony at the Ulster County Court House. “It seems none of the issues that were mentioned when they were cancelled came up.”
Some of the issues were about the courts and other administrative matters, which Bruck denied were the fault of the county.
“Originally they said our courts did not meet the statutory requirements, which to me, was a bogus excuse,” said Bruck.
There was also a federal challenge of not enough applicants in waiting, but that backlog eventually grew to over 100 in Ulster County, and now they are waiting to be naturalized.
“So, it was really nice to have 37 here today, and I’m hopeful that rest of them 2026 go as well,” said Bruck.
Bruck expects the next naturalization ceremony to be conducted in late May.
