MIDDLETOWN – A fight between two men on the sidewalk in front of 73 Academy Avenue in Middletown early Thursday afternoon resulted in two men being stabbed, city police said Friday.

Incident found that a fight had taken place between the two men and that one, identified as Torell Saxon, 47, pulled a folding knife and stabbed the other man in the left arm and shoulder.

After the man was stabbed and the other man continued to fight, a woman at the scene grabbed a pair of scissors and tried to stop the suspect by stabbing him in the left shoulder. The suspect released his grasp and began away.

The woman flagged down a passing motorist who called the police.

City police arrested Saxon and charged him with felony assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. He was also found to have an active bench warrant from a previous case, was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail.

Police said there are no charges expected against the male victim or the woman who defended him.

The two wounded men were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released.
