MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown City School District custodian who was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, resigned from his position at the Middletown High School on Thursday.

Ralph Sabater, 39, had been on paid leave since his arrest on February 26th.

It is alleged that Sabater was impaired by marijuana while operating his vehicle during his lunch break.  After he was arrested, the officers located a loaded 9mm handgun in his vehicle.  Sabater has an Orange County Concealed Carry Pistol Permit.

Sabater is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday, March 18th, in the Town of Wallkill Justice Court before Judge Peter Green.

“Mr. Sabater fully cooperated with the members of law enforcement and the Middletown City School District in their investigations.” Sabater’s defense attorney, Amir Sadaghiani of Goshen, told Mid-Hudson News. “He is in the process of voluntarily surrendering his handguns and rifles, as well as his pistol permit, to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.”
