NEW YORK – A Clarkstown man who was a member of the National Guard died Friday in the Middle East, officials said.
Major Sorffly Davius died from a medical episode while deployed with the 42nd Infantry Division, they said.
Davius was a member of the New York City Police Department assigned to a Brooklyn precinct.
Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann has ordered all town flags lowered to half-staff immediately and until the day of interment. “The entire Clarkstown community mourns the profound loss of Major Davius and stands ready to support his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” he said.
Governor Kathy Hochul called Davius a citizen soldier in every sense. “A dedicated NYPD officer and decorated Army veterans, he spent his career protecting others,” she said. “His life is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by our National Guard members, who balance their roles as citizens, first responders, and soldiers.”
House of Representatives Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called Davius “an American hero” who “represents the very best of our nation.”
