MIDDLETOWN – SUNY Orange, with two campuses in Middletown and Newburgh, has now posted higher enrollment in 13 consecutive academic sessions and has seen overall enrollment grow by 27.5 percent in that time period.

This spring the college saw an increase of 7.4 percent more students than one year ago.

College President Dr. Kristine Young said the school “continues to build momentum by attracting new students and retaining current students.”

And she said the means by which SUNY Orange is reaching prospective students has changed in recent years.

“Maybe a generation ago you might only think of going into the high schools and trying to talk with students during their senior year in high school about what their next will be,” she said. “Now, you might find a lot more on social media. You might find us in the workplace. We talk much more about how education links to careers, not just jobs, but careers.”

Among key demographic groups identified in college enrollment, Hispanic student population has grown by 51.1 percent since spring 2022 and black student population has grown by 57.5 percent. College-wide retention efforts have helped the continuing student population increase by 25.5 percent in that span while there are 25.0 percent more adult students enrolled since 2022.
