Rep. Ryan calls Trump “lying, chicken-hawk president” for starting war in Iran

WASHINGTON – Democratic Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18), who served two combat tours in Iraq after graduating from West Point, blasted President Trump over his war in Iran, calling him “a lying, chicken-hawk president” (who) beats the war drums is more than willing to send our kids off to die in the Middle East but unable to articulate why.”

On Wednesday, Ryan led 10 fellow Democratic veterans in calling out Trump’s “illegal, dangerous war in Iran.”

And the congressman didn’t mince words:

“If I hear one more chicken-hawk who has never served a single day in uniform, sitting in a gold-plated office in D.C. or in Mar-a-Lago or anywhere else try to talk tough having never seen what war is about, I’m going to lose my mind,” he said. “And we are going to hold them accountable; we are going to call out their BS every single time and when we do that, the American people will certainly be with us because that is where they wisely remain.”

“Six American servicemembers are killed, many more wounded,” said Congressman Chris Deluzio. “Billions of dollars likely spent already. Still the Trump Administration doesn’t have a clue about what comes next.”

The army veteran said Congress needs to pass the War Powers resolution “and put a stop to this reckless war in Iran.”

Congressman Eugene Vindman, who served in the army for 25 years including in Iraq, said his twin brother was wounded by an Iranian IED. “I understand the threat posed by Iran. But wars are easy to start and hard to finish – and Americans are the ones who pay the price.”
