MIDDLETOWN – Police in the City of Middletown are investigating a robbery attempt that left the suspect with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say it was a robbery attempt at a convenience store in the area of 130 Wickham Avenue that occurred around 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Police Lt. Jeffery Thoelen, who was at the scene, said a man in his 50s or 60s attempted to rob the female store clerk. He said it was unknown at this time if the suspect was armed.
Thoelen said the clerk chased the suspect out the door and caught him down the street where they struggled. A witness to the fight called the police.
When police arrived, Thoelen said they found the suspect on the ground suffering from some kind of “medical emergency.”
He was rushed to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill in serious condition, according to the lieutenant.
