CARMEL – No cake or party balloons, just a celebration of gratitude and a significant milestone for Putnam County!

It was 21 years ago Monday when on March 2, 2005, at 12:21 p.m., the initial dispatch was transmitted from the Putnam County 911 Center.

What began as a centralized point for fire, EMS, and emergency police calls has grown significantly as today the center serves as the primary dispatch center for: Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Cold Spring Police Department and the Brewster Police Department.

County Executive Kevin Byrne described the anniversary as “more than a date on the calendar. It’s about the dedicated dispatchers who work behind the scenes 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. They are the “Gold Line of public safety—the calm voices in the storm ensuring that help is always on the way.”

The year 2025 set a record at the center with more than 106,000 calls answered.

Cindy Jacobsen, the center’s Supervisor of Communications reported 23,472 cell 911 calls; 6,162 landline 911 calls; 46,875 administrative line calls; 28,051 outbound calls; 1,399 abandoned calls and 65 texts to 911.

Putnam County’s 911 Center became only the seventh in the state to become certified for meeting essential training and policy elements while demonstrating preparedness for responding to a missing child incident.

From the moment the report of a missing child is received to the resolution of the case, every action taken has the potential to make the difference between a successful recovery or tragic outcome.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children developed the Missing Kids Readiness Program to promote best practices for responding to calls of missing, abducted, and sexually exploited children.

To meet the requirements of the program, the Putnam County 911 center worked with the national organization on its missing child policy to ensure it met the critical elements of the national policy for call center agencies.

Commissioner of Emergency Services James Oster commended the center’s highly trained staff for its professionalism during the past year.

Team members include: Jacobsen, Shift Supervisor Brian Burdick, Shift Supervisor Shawn Madsen, Shift Supervisor Brendan Stevens, Shift Supervisor Michael McMahon and dispatchers Anthony Nistico, Stephen Johnson, Heather Fox, Kim Kelly-Hahn, Kathy Reczek, Scott Efferen, Patrick Strang, Robert Trace, Chris Pagliuca, Brittany Carroll, Steven Priolo, Michael Madsen, Alyssa Gonzalez, Stefano Priolo, Dylan Ek and Brian O’Hagan.
