NEW YORK- Nassau County Executive and Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman has made a bold guarantee, proclaiming on Friday that he will cut utility bills in half if he defeats Governor Kathy Hochul in November.

Blakeman’s promise comes a day after a leaked memo from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) revealed that residents will pay about $4,000 annually if the state fully implements its Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) to meet 2030 targets for greenhouse gas emissions.

Blakeman said his administration will pursue a practical, affordable energy strategy that protects the environment without punishing ratepayers.

“On Day One, I will put an end to the CLCPA and (Governor) Hochul’s green energy scam,” Blakeman said. “A Blakeman administration will cut your utility bill in half and ensure you have reliable power – that’s a promise!”

Blakeman called the CLCPA a “utility bill bomb that is exploding on kitchen tables across New York.” However, Hochul remains in pole position to be re-elected.

According to a Marist Poll released this week, Hochul enjoys her highest job approval rating since 2021 and leads Blakeman by 17 points in the polls. Per the Marist Poll, a majority (52 percent) of state voters have either never heard of Blakeman or are unsure how to rate him.

Forty-six percent of state residents approve of the job Governor Hochul is doing in office, up from 39 percent in April of 2025.
