CROTON FALLS- Eric Andujar will be calling a cell in a maximum security New York State penitentiary home for the next decade after pleading guilty to assault in connection with a vicious attack inside a residence on December 5, 2024, near the Putnam-Westchester County border.
He was sentenced to the felony charge on Friday, along with five years of supervision once released.
Andujar, 52, who resides in Croton Falls, became embroiled in the domestic incident and 9-1-1calls sent State Police to the home.
Prosecutors charged when troopers arrived, they heard screams coming from inside. One law enforcement professional forced his way into the residence before backup arrived and was immediately confronted by Andujar, who was covered in blood and armed with a screwdriver.
Authorities said Andujar lunged at the trooper and attempted to stab him multiple times. Responding officers were ultimately able to subdue the suspect.
Investigators later determined that Andujar had stabbed the victim, described in court as someone close to him, in the head, neck, and body about 15 times with the screwdriver.
Andujar pleaded guilty in January to first-degree assault in connection with the attack.
In court, prosecutors called Andujar’s actions “nothing short of cowardly and despicable,” but said the case also highlighted courage, both from the victim and from the troopers involved.
Andujar previously served with the Yonkers Police Department from 2001 to 2004, resigning in lieu of termination after being arrested in an unrelated domestic violence incident.
