KINGSTON – The Kingston City Land Bank cut the ribbon Friday on two adjoining midtown properties that are being sold to two new homeowners.

“We have done a very comprehensive rehab,” said Aron Chilewich, board president of the Kingston City Land Bank, of 52 Grand Street, “put in all new finishes and the HVAC system.”

The other ribbon cutting was conducted around the corner at 488 Hasbrouck Ave., and both properties were formerly abandoned before the rehabs put them both on the tax rolls.

“They have been abandoned properties before being acquired by the land bank for rehab and resale,” said Chilewich.

Both properties were the last of six acquired and sold by the land bank, and both are being acquired by new homeowners who earn at or below 80 percent of the area medium income.

“It feels great,” said Sergio Vasquez, whose family will be moving into 488 Hasbrouck Avenue. “This is best feeling in life. This is the best our people can afford. I’m really happy, thankful what the community is doing for our people, and the land bank, too.”
