POUGHKEEPSIE – Shortly after the December closing and just a few weeks after receiving , work began on the Wallace Campus project at 331 Main Street in the City of Poughkeepsie.
The project, being constructed on Main Street near Catharine Street, received $2.2 million in funding from the Dutchess County Housing Trust Fund in 2023.
In 2022, the project received $750,000 in state funding to assist in developing the “Wallace Green” portion of the development. An unspecified amount of funding was approved by the Dutchess County Legislature earlier this month.
Scaffolding and fencing went up along Main and Catherine Streets to protect against falling debris from the demolition of a few existing Main Street buildings.
The project has a 28-month construction calendar, and three of the Main Street buildings were leveled and hauled away before the Blizzard of 2026 hit the area.
The Wallace Campus is a 187-unit affordable and supportive housing development that includes the transformation of a former department store as well as new construction. All units will be affordable to households earning up to 80 percent of the Area Median Income.
Developed by Mega Development and Ametrine Group, the non-building elements of the project include a large landscaped open space within the center of the campus, called “Wallace Green,” open to the public on the same schedule as public parks in the city. The project also provides a new pedestrian connection between Main Street and Mill Street at Conklin Street.
