NEWBURGH – In an attempt to reduce intimate partner violence, the City of Newburgh is going to apply for a state grant of $120,000 from the Division of Criminal Justice Services.

Police chief Brandon Rola says the program would have a number of components.

“A portion of that money would go toward training officers to better handle things, recognize different items as well as warrants if you get into a domestic violence and you break your order of protection, now there are violent offenders on a warrant list. We go out targeting violent offenders. It’s very data driven,” he said. “There are home visits after a violent domestic; we can follow up with some of the partnership agencies on these grants.”

If the grant is approved by the state, it would be for a one year period, from April 1 of this year to March 31, 2027.
