GOSHEN – With funding from Senator James Skoufis (D, Orange County), Orange County Sheriff Paul Arteta has announced the purchase of a second FLY-Car, which provides basic life support first response services as a supplement to volunteer and paid ambulance services.

“Senator Skoufis continues to be an advocate and reliable resource for law enforcement, and we appreciate his support and dedication to public safety,” Arteta said. “”When we introduced the FLY-Car program to Orange County, the goal was simple: reach people faster and save lives. The FLY-Car is more than a patrol vehicle- it is a lifeline. This program has allowed us to cut response times, and as a result, families in our county still have their loved ones.”

The Sheriff’s Office currently has six certified EMTs operating the FLY-Cars in jurisdictions where EMS response time exceeds 10 minutes. FLY-Car jurisdictions are selected through coordination and analysis with our partners at Orange County Emergency Services. Each FLY-Car is outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment, including a LUCAS Device, a portable mechanical chest compression system capable of delivering 102 compressions per minute.

One life-saving incident has already been credited to the use of this device, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“I applaud the Sheriff’s Office for their innovative initiative to assist with the EMS crisis here in Orange County,” Skoufis said. “They’re stepping up at a time when so many communities face enormous challenges, ensuring response times are quick and care is delivered. I am delighted to support the department’s efforts with funding for a new vehicle to further help bridge the gap between that initial 911 call and the arrival of trained professionals.”
