MIDDLETOWN – Reconstruction of the O&W Railroad Station in Middletown is underway and should be completed in about two months.

Mayor Joseph DeStefano provided an update to the city common council Tuesday night.

The O&W will be home to the Head Start program led by the Regional Community Action Program. An anticipated completion date is March of 2027, the mayor said, noting that the state will be monitoring the transformation with excitement.

The structure, which has been shored up already, suffered heavy fire damage years ago and faced demolition before state and other funding sources saved it from the wrecking ball.

DeStefano also told local lawmakers that the first phase of the parking garage across from the Paramount Theater on South Street should be completed by May. The $2.5 million to $3 million cost of the project is being covered by a state grant from Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall).
