MAHOPAC – Utility bills are going through the roof this winter as residents throughout the region are bitterly complaining about the skyrocketing costs to heat their homes and businesses.

Representatives of the New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) will be meeting with customers during a Community Connection event today in Mahopac, offering resources, answering questions, and addressing account needs.

NYSEG spokesman Matt Weissman said the event will allow “our company’s customers to get face-to-face, one-on-one help with a billing concern and to address any questions. There will not be a formal presentation at the event. Customers are encouraged to arrive anytime between 4-7 p.m. to meet with a customer service representative. They will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.”

During the event, customers can ask questions about their accounts and learn about resources to help manage energy costs.

Weissman said the open-house style event will allow customers to “learn about resources available to them, including one-on-one assistance with bills, energy assistance programs, local project information, information on smart meters, and learn more about energy efficiency programs since we remain committed to the communities we serve and will continue to have a direct presence in the community.”

Today’s event will take place at Carmel Town Hall, located at 60 McAplin Avenue in Mahopac.
