POUGHKEEPSIE – While saying he is frustrated with what is going on in Washington by the Republican administration, Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18) Sunday said he is filled with pride and optimism.

Ryan addressed a full house at the Poughkeepsie Partnership Center

on Sunday as he delivered his annual state of the Hudson Valley address. He proclaimed the state of the region is patriotic and united.

What is going on at the nation’s capital is different, he said, where Americans are being killed on our streets and people are being “scooped up” by ICE agents.

He noted he signed onto the articles of impeachment for Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem.

And he blasted the plan to create an ICE detention center in Chester. “We will stop that from happening in this community,” he said to applause.

The Democratic congressman said the community and won Washington’s plans to cut 20 beds from the VA hospital at Castle Point and he praised the tiny home effort in Port Jervis that has seen the first of several facilities built and installed for homeless veterans.
