Deputies tracked down the suspects and captured them

BREWSTER- A license plate reader alert in Brewster through the Westchester-Putnam Crime Center reporting a vehicle stolen from Nassau County led to the arrests of four juveniles from Brooklyn on a variety of charges.

Sheriff Brian Hess reported on Valentine’s Day around 7:50 a.m. after a deputy’s LPR became activated, the officer located the vehicle in the parking lot at 1 Starr Ridge Road and attempted to stop it.

Hess said the “vehicle came to a stop after backing into a snow bank and four occupants fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, the driver was apprehended with the assistance of the Village of Brewster Police. A second suspect was located hiding inside a nearby business and the remaining two occupants were located inside a nearby gas station. All were taken into custody by deputies with the assistance of the New York State Police.

Each was charged with felony counts of grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

They were all arraigned and released to the custody of their guardians.

Sheriff Hess said “License Plate Reader technology plays a critical role in helping prevent crimes before they happen and enhancing public safety throughout New York State.”
