CARMEL – One of Putnam’s late Sheriff Kevin McConville’s last wishes was to donate $1,000 to the Stephen Driscoll Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) to assist law enforcement throughout the county.
McConville died last summer at the age of 68.
At Thursday evening’s meeting of the Putnam FOP chapter, President Pete Conlin read a letter to the more than 75 members in attendance from the McConville family recognizing the late sheriff’s wish.
Conlin asked McConville’s successor Sheriff Brian Hess to join him at the dais along with Carmel Police Officer Anthony Bambach who lost his home and his family possessions last month during a late-night fire.
The check was handed over to the officer.
Bambach was visibly moved by the generous donation thanking the late sheriff’s family and the FOP membership. He also expressed relief that his wife and two young children managed to escape the inferno on that cold night. “Possessions can be replaced. Thank God my family made it out OK,” he said.
Those in attendance stood and applauded.
