HYDE PARK – Speed limit changes are coming to East Dorsey Lane, according to Hyde Park Town Supervisor Al Torreggiani. The reduction from 45 mph to 35 mph on the road between Violet Avenue and Cream Street is the result of a collaboration between town, county, and New York State DOT, which gave the final approval and also gave permission for a new 25 mph “school zone” in the vicinity of St. Peter’s School.
“Public safety has been a top priority, and while the process to secure this reduction was extensive, I am gratified to see these efforts come to fruition,” said Torreggiani.
East Dorsey Lane is also Dutchess County Route 40, which required the assistance from the Dutchess County DPW to make the change possible.
The supervisor credited former Councilman John Lombardi for his early collaboration with Dutchess County and DOT, along with former Highway Superintendent Howie Fisher, for moving the process along.
Torreggiani issued a message to motorists, saying, “Drivers must slow down. I am encouraging the Town Police to actively enforce these new limits to ensure the safety of our residents and students.”
Police will begin enforcing the new speed limits once the speed limit signs have been changed on the affected roads.
