Senator James Skoufis (D, Orange County) and his Conservative opponent, Tim Mitts, have agreed to play nice in the sandbox during the 42nd Senate District race.

Skoufis, the incumbent, and Mitts released a joint statement pledging to prioritize real debate over negative and personal attacks against each other. A Republican has yet to enter the race.

“The people of Orange County deserve a campaign between Tim and me that’s free from mudslinging and focused on the issues that matter most to them,” said Skoufis. “I’m committed to discussing my record of fighting overdevelopment, tackling corruption and corporate welfare, lowering state income taxes, and expanding universal pre-K. I look forward to a substantive discussion with Tim about our district’s future.”

Both candidates specifically agreed to:

  • Abstain from personal or misleading attacks against each other;
  • Maintain respectful debate and civil discourse between their two campaigns;
  • Prioritize discussion about the issues facing Orange County families.

“Senator Skoufis and I agree that our competition is about ideas, not personal attacks,” said Tim Mitts. “This race is about transparency, finding the problems that plague this great district and finding the right solutions to fix them. I, we, all candidates owe it to you, the people, to run a clean, no personal attacks, race. To keep the focus on the issues where it belongs. Among other things, we need to focus on our water, sewer, and infrastructure to name a few issues. Together we can make the difference.”
