GOSHEN- A Newburgh man has been sentenced to state prison following his conviction in a sexual assault case investigated by the Town of Cornwall Police Department, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced.
On Monday, February 9, 2026, Tyler Sebesta, 26, was sentenced in Orange County Court to 12½ years in prison, followed by 20 years of post-release supervision, after previously pleading guilty to rape in the first degree. As part of the sentence, Sebesta will also be required to register as a sex offender under the New York Sex Offender Registration Act.
According to court records, Sebesta admitted that on or about November 11, 2024, he engaged in sexual conduct with a person in the Town of Cornwall who was incapable of giving consent due to being physically helpless.
“This defendant’s admitted act of sexual assault against a helpless victim stands as a reminder of the pervasive threat of sexual violence in our society,” Hoovler said in a statement. “We stand in solidarity with the survivor and remain committed to the pursuit of justice.”
The case has now concluded with sentencing, and Sebesta will serve his prison term in the New York State Department of Corrections.
