Brett Yaris

CARMEL –Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne will not have a free ride in his reelection bid this fall now that Brett Yarris of Carmel has filed with the NYS Board of Elections to challenge the first term incumbent.

Yarris, a Democrat, ran last November for a seat on the Putnam Legislature and lost to Republican Jake D’Angelo, who at 24 is the youngest legislator to have served on the nine-member governing body.

Yarris noted his filing allowed him to “create an exploratory committee.”

Yarris often attends legislative meetings. He serves as vice chair and treasurer of the Putnam County Soil & Water Conservation District Board and is founder and CEO of The Behavior Movement, a special-needs fitness company, and Football Behavior, an analytics platform.

Byrne, a resident of Mahopac, is a former New York State Assemblyman who ran unopposed for Putnam’s top elected position in 2022.
