ALBANY — Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado has selected former Buffalo mayoral candidate India Walton as his running mate in his primary bid against his boss, Governor Kathy Hochul. Democrat Delgado, a resident of the Hudson Valley, is challenging Hochul for the Democratic nomination for Governor and has chosen the Democratic Socialists of America Party (DSA) member, India Walton, to run with him. Far-left members of the Democratic Party believe Delgado’s choice of the Buffalo resident and former nurse is a way to secure primary votes from the far-left wing of the Democratic Party.
Delgado has appeared with other members of the DSA, including an appearance in Poughkeepsie at a “For the Many” event in July 2025, hosted by Poughkeepsie Councilman Daniel Atonna, a member of the DSA.
Walton also has strong ties to the Working Families Party, considered by political activists to be an important voting block for Democrats seeking the nomination.
Walton has a criminal record, including a bullying charge and has had ber vehicle impounded for a lapse in registration and unpaid tickets.
Walton previously sought election to the Buffalo City Council in 2023, receiving one-third of the votes in the Democratic Primary.
