Stephen Alvarez

POUGHKEEPSIE – Ulster County resident Stephen Alvarez, 42, a resident of Marlborough, was sentenced to up to eight years in prison following his April 2025 guilty plea to felony criminal sex act and felony disseminating indecent material to minors.  Alvarez was sentenced to 5 years in state prison on the sex act charge, along with an indeterminate prison term of one to three years on the indecent material conviction.  He will also serve 10 years of post-release supervision and must register as a sex offender.

District Attorney Anthony Parisi said, “This case represents some of the most disturbing and dangerous conduct my office prosecutes. The defendant deliberately targeted and exploited a minor, and today’s sentence holds him accountable while protecting the community.”  Making his opinion clear, the DA said, “Let this be clear: predators who harm children will face severe consequences in Dutchess County.”

The charges stem from incidents in March 2024 in Hyde Park, when Alvarez, who was 40 years old at the time, engaged in oral sexual conduct with a person under the age of 15 and sent harmful text messages describing actual sexual conduct to the same victim. These messages were sent as invitations for the minor to engage in sexual intercourse with Alvarez for his benefit.

The case was investigated by the Town of Hyde Park Police Department. The prosecution was led by Unit Chief Brittney Kessel, and the matter was presided over by former County Court Judge Edward T. McLoughlin and Judge Karen Edelman-Reyes.
