MAHOPAC –A town hall designed to help veterans, service members, and their families better understand and access the benefits they have earned by bringing together local, county, and state experts to provide clear, practical information focused on financial well-being, housing, and long-term stability takes place today (Thursday) at the Mahopac Library.

The forum is being sponsored by the Joseph P. Dwyer Vet2Vet Program of Putnam County, a support group that fosters a sense of belonging and reduces feelings of isolation, as veterans can relate to each other’s journeys in ways that others may not. Through peer support groups and programs, veterans provide each other with emotional encouragement, practical advice, and a shared sense of purpose. This network of support not only enhances individual well-being but also strengthens the overall resilience of the veteran community.

A spokesperson explained the event had been planned for last week; however, due to the snowstorm it was pushed back for one week.

From 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. a variety of topics will be discussed and presentations made, including VA Home Loans & Homeownership Tools, including guidance on avoiding predatory lending, understanding buyer broker agreements, and maximizing benefits such as fee waivers and property tax reductions; Property Tax Savings & Exemptions, with updates on state and local exemption laws and step-by-step application guidance;

Putnam County Real Estate Market insights for buyers and sellers; Veterans’ Benefits, Claims, and Compensation, including eligibility, enrollment, education benefits for veterans and dependents, and county benefits that supplement VA programs in addition to New York State legislation affecting veterans and their families.

Speakers will include representatives from the Dwyer Vet 2Vet Program of Putnam County, Putnam County government, the New York State VA Home Loan Program, the Putnam County Veterans Service Agency, local real estate professionals, and Guardian Revival.

There is no cost to attend but registration is required as seating is limited.
