PUTNAM VALLEY- Florence Clifton, Putnam’s oldest resident, died Tuesday at the age of 107, six weeks shy of her birthday.
Known as Putnam Valley’s grandma, Clifton was widely cherished in Putnam Valley and beyond, known for her warmth and deep ties to the community.
She was a client of the County’s Office for Senior Resources.
Former Putnam Valley Supervisor Jacqueline Annabi remembered Clifton as a woman who “always had nice words about everyone. Her message of ‘appreciate very day and appreciate were you live’ was a message we all should follow. Florence was a beautiful, wonderful woman and will be sorely missed.”
County Executive Kevin Byrne also reflected on Clifton’s passing: “Florence inspired all of us and was cherished in Putnam Valley and beyond. Here’s to a wonderful life lived by a special woman. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.”
In 2023, town officials honored her by declaring March 20 as Florence Clifton Day.
