CARMEL- Old Man Winter played Scrooge during the Christmas holidays by dumping snow, forcing the cancellation of Putnam’s Holiday Blood Drive sponsored each year by emergency services providers.

Blood drive coordinator Denis Hanrahan put it this way: “We’re going to try again!”

On Sunday, lab technicians and phlebotomists from the New York Blood Bank will be at the Carmel Veterans Hall on Gleneida Avenue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. collecting pints of the life saving fluid.

Hanrahan said due to the “challenging weather and flu outbreak the blood supply in the NY Metropolitan area is at an absolute critical level.”

Donors are being encouraged to make an appointment via the internet by visiting the NY Blood Center website:

Appointments can also be scheduled by calling 1-800-933-2566.

Those who donate blood will receive either a Valentine’s Day holiday beanie or the highly acclaimed NY Blood Center holiday socks.

Courtesy of Fiddler’s Green Pub at the Putnam Plaza in Carmel, the ‘PINT for a PINT’ has returned and for each donation of a pint of blood, donors will receive a coupon for a pint of ‘fermented draft’ beverage or a pint of carbonated sugar water.

Hanrahan added: “We hope you can once again join the members of the FDNY, Driscoll Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, Knights of Columbus Lodge 6318 as well as Guardian Revival for the critical drive.”

Those with questions may contact Hanrahan at 845-300-0428, Pete Conlin at 845-704-1367, or Rick Kreps at 845-225-6318.
